Ongoing Tissue Culture Projects

AKF Plant Sciences is continuously expanding its tissue culture plant range by constant investment in research and development in the tissue culture field. We strongly focus on market oriented, commercial utilization of biotech research, so that it benefits our farmers and growers, and contributes to the pressing need of poverty alleviation and enhanced food nutrition and security. To close the loop, we also use feedback from our farmers to guide our tissue culture plant production range. Below is a list of plants we are currently developing:

TR4 Tolerant Banana Varieties

TR4 which stands for Fusarium wilt caused by the fungus Fusarium oxysporum has already wiped out many varieties of banana in the world and continues to ravage plantations of sucker grown banana across the world. AKF Plant Sciences is in the process of developing and identifying TR4 resistant strains to beat this fungus.

Tissue Culture Turmeric

India is the largest producer and consumer of turmeric in the world. Scientific advances find ever more proof of turmeric benefits leading to increasing usage in pharmaceuticals. AKF plant sciences seeks to develop best varieties with high curcumin content and better field performance and has begun to offer its turmeric tissue culture plants for sale to farmers.

Tissue Culture Ornamentals

TC grown ornamentals have better appearance, better growth and improved disease resistance. AKF has successfully developed protocols and is now producing various decorative flowering and non flowering plants widely used by nurseries. Using our TC grown indoor and outdoor ornamental plants gives nurseries an edge in the competitive category.

Tissue Culture Ginger

Important in terms of value, the Ginger crop suffers low productivity due to diseases caused from rhizome rot caused by Pythium spp and Ralstonia solanacearum. Our R&D team has developed disease-free TC Ginger selected from elite plants having good taste, disease resistance, and high yields. Ginger tissue culture plants are now available for sale.

Tissue Culture Bamboo

Farmers require regular and sufficient availability of quality bamboo plants of known and tested varieties to meet the high demand for edible bamboo, as well as high biomass varieties. At AKF, we are in the process of trialing and breeding new species and arriving at the right protocol for in vitro regeneration of bamboo.

AKF also offers services in horticultural consultancy and in contract research in the field of plant biotechnology.

AKF Plant Sciences also has a strong technical team lead by experienced tissue culturists. We can offer starter cultures, technology transfer of our existing product lines and contract research services to other TCPU's and other organizations. We also welcome universities, research institutes or other academic organizations wishing to collaborate on currently funded projects or new projects.

In horticultural consultancy we provide solutions for plantation of horticultural crops in diverse agro climates like semi arid to tropical humid to saline to black cotton type soil. We have in our team well experienced horticulturists from academic to practical field to provide true solutions to your needs.
